I'm so happy for him.
If he wasn't already dead the last 8 years would have certainly killed him...
but now....

"IT's OVER!!!!! The republican beast is dead! It's dead. It's dead. It's dead."

Harold the Movie in theaters this week!

if any of you guys know peeps in LA and NYC...can you pass this along??

My old friend - former Texas out-law comic T. Sean Shannon who was very close friends with Bill Hicks has just completed his first feature comedic masterpiece. "Harold" is a classic summer comedy and I would consider it a personal favor if everyone in and around Los Angles, NYC and Delray Beach Florida would go and support T. Sean this week. It's a one-week run, but the distributor will extend the run based on attendance, so therefore your support means a lot. If you don't live in these cities, please feel free to forward this email to your friends, family, and co-workers who do live in these markets.
Thanks for your help!

HAROLD the movie
http://www.haroldmoviesite.com/
CUBA GOODING JR, ALLY SHEEDY Rachel Dratch, Colin Quinn, Fred Willard SPENCER BRESLIN, NIKKI BLONSKY, Chris Parnell,

In L.A. Harold is playing at Laemmle Monica 4-plex in Santa Monica.
1332 2nd St in Santa Monica.

In New York we are at the AMC Village 7 which is 66 3rd Ave.
(11th street and 3rd avenue)

T. Sean Shannon is a comedy writer originally from Houston, Texas.
As a writer for Saturday Night Live he won an Emmy Award in 2002 (nominated
in 2001 and 2003) and a WGA Award in 2001 (nominated in 2001, 2002 and
2003). His great friendships with SNL stars Colin Quinn, Chris Parnell and
Rachel Dratch brought these hilarious cast members to the HAROLD production.

Hi,
I sent a few messages to the old moderator who has not been on tribe since 04.
There was no response.
I was a producer's assistant on the Just A Ride documentary and booked all the interviews.
I've lived with Bill's philosophy as a touchstone ever since.

I'd love to help keep news and ideas alive here.
Please post below if you support this or have an alternative suggestion.
cheers

New Material

Okay its like this. I've been popping pills and zoning out in front of the TV turned to a dead channel for about three years now hoping to get some new material from Bill on the other side. Saddam Part Two, Who Gives a Fuck About the Internet, Waffle Waitress Becomes Ambassador to Kurdmanistan - anything. Zip. Ziltch. Not a goddam singular thing. I'm starting to think the kid who told me he could receive messages from his dead father by taking a tab of LSD and watching his broken TV set was a little short of a barrel.

I'm starving here - and don't you dare tell me I should come up with my own material. Fuck you. I'm an American goddammit! (Ashamed to admit it anywhere but in the US of A.) I'm entitled to be spoon fed on demand! So bring it! Bring it on! I'm sick of thinking and discussing and working things out for myself. Would someone please just placate me with some sick dark humour so I can pat myself on the back and go on with my miserable life? Please?

Last week I worked with Dwight Slade at Tommy Ts.
Keeping the legacy of Hicks alive one frustrated outburst show at a time.
He is like Hicks without the drugs. A little bit mellower but both of them
started out together. I asked for the gig so that I could work with him.
Funny guy. Honored to work with him.

Why Bill Hicks may be the God of Comedy Central!!!!

The other day I was talking with a person about Hicks...this person didn't know who Hicks was. So SAD...but great for me to start with the jokes...well this person made comparisons...oh that sounds like Dan Cook or Carlos or blah blah blah..I'm like dude those people are their cause of Hicks...

These are thoughts about what is and what could have been!!

Back in Hicks day we had HBO comedy specials back then we had HBO, Cinemax and regular TV...4, 5, 7 etc..
To see a comedian you had to go to a club or rent a movie or watch a special on HBO, we also had the improve nights or comedy nights as specials but never a long running show. Hicks wanted a television show, I've read that he finally got the go ahead just as his cancer was kicking in and he was working on the show at the same time.

I believe that Bill Hicks was working on a type of show we may watch on Comedy Central before Comedy Central was even on air, I'll put money on it. Bill fought to get this TV show going of course he died before it was finished. There is a possibility his idea was taken as a great idea and turned into what we see today as the typical show, Chapelle, Mencia ect. maybe even inspired the network to come about Comedy Central. Could I be making more of Bill then actually is, maybe, however I just have this feeling...if he was still alive and the show went on air, it would have been as usual with Hicks ahead of it's time and canceled and now today he'd be back in full force, on Comedy Central with his own show.

If anybody has heard of the planned Bill Hicks show maybe their is some skits or footage or scripts out their. The like holy grail of Comedy Central, locked in a vault is the secret to Comedy Centrals success, it's the Bill Hicks TV pilot...Is Bill Hicks the God of Comedy??? Yes if you believe in a God....

I keep coming back to the dinosaurs in the Bible bit. I really love that one:

"And Jesus and the disciples walked down the path towards Nazareth, but oh the trail was blocked by a giant brontosaurus with a splinter in his paw, and the Disciples did run a screamin; what a big fuckin lizard lord. I’m sure gonna mention this in my book, said Luke. Well I’m sure gonna mention it in my book, said Matthew. I’m not sure what I saw, said Thomas. Timothy nudged him; it was a big fuckin lizard Thomas. But Jesus was unafraid and he took the splinter from the brontosaurus paw and the brontosaurus became his friend. And Jesus sent him to Scotland, where he lived in a lock oh so many years, attracting fat American families with their fat fuckin dollars to look for the Loch ness monster and oh the Scots did praise the lord; thank you lord, thank you lord.”

Today is the anniversary of Bill's death, for those who might be interested. Arguably, not much has changed in our "culture" since 1994, the year 'god's' comic shuffled off this mortal coil. Though this saddens, we can still borrow strength from his efforts. In celebration of his life, hope you all do a little to wake up mediocretins today.

Magic mushrooms can induce mystical effects, study finds
By Jeremy Laurance, Health Editor, The Independent
http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/health_medical/article1171389.ece
Published: 11 July 2006

A universal mystical experience with life-changing effects can be produced by the hallucinogen contained in magic mushrooms, scientists claim today.

Forty years after Timothy Leary, the apostle of drug-induced mysticism, urged his hippie followers to "tune in, turn on, and drop out", researchers at Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, Maryland, have for the first time demonstrated that mystical experiences can be produced safely in the laboratory. They say that there is no difference between drug-induced mystical experiences and the spontaneous religious ones that believers have reported for centuries. They are "descriptively identical".

And they argue that the potential of the hallucinogenic drugs, ignored for decades because of their links with illicit drug use in the 1960s, must be explored to develop new treatments for depression, drug addiction and the treatment of intolerable pain.

Anticipating criticism from church leaders, they say they are not interested in the "Does God exist?" debate. "This work can't and won't go there."

Interest in the therapeutic use of psychedelic drugs is growing around the world. In the UK, the Royal College of Psychiatrists debated their use at a conference in March for the first time in 30 years. A conference held in Basel, Switzerland, last January reviewed the growing psychedelic psychiatry movement.

The drug psilocybin is the active ingredient of magic mushrooms which grow wild in Wales and were openly sold in London markets until a change in the law last year.

For the US study, 30 middle-aged volunteers who had religious or spiritual interests attended two eight-hour drug sessions, two months apart, receiving psilocybin in one session and a non-hallucinogenic stimulant, Ritalin, in the other. They were not told which drug was which.

I hope you check it out.

What Would Bill Hicks Say just came out last week...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1933368012/sr=8-1/qid=1140317141/ref=sr_1_1/102-7804772-6861765?%5Fencoding=UTF8

Book Description
What would Bill Hicks say about the second George Bush, the second war in Iraq, American Idol, or erectile dysfunction? In 250 words (or one picture) or less, writers, comedians, musicians, cartoonists, and entrants from Austin’s annual Bill Hicks Tribute Rant-Off fulminate about the current political and cultural scene in Hicksian rants. Contributors include cartoonists Jeff Danziger and Martyn Turner; writers Neal Pollack, Robert Newman, and A.L. Kennedy; and Thom Yorke of Radiohead.

Just emerging from underground cult status when he died in 1994, Hicks redefined the boundaries of comedy in the 1980s. His biting social satire about everything from the first President Bush to rock stars who shill for diet Coke made audiences roar and censors cringe. Hicks believed that while ideas evolve, principles remain constant, and that the venues for expressing them change over time. Hicks said he was planting seeds. By providing a forum for those touched by Hicks's ideas to speak out on his behalf, this book waters those seeds. More than just a tribute to Hicks's legend, What Would Bill Hicks Say? is a thought-provoking reflection of the present moment.

this is only a test

This test only has one question, but it's a very important one.

By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally.

The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision.

You are in Florida. Miami, to be specific. There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding. This is a flood of biblical proportions. You are a photojournalist working for a major newspaper, and you're caught in the middle of this epic disaster.

The situation is nearly hopeless. You're trying to shoot career-making photos. There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing under the water. Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury. Suddenly you see a man floundering in the water. He is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken down with the debris.

You move closer.... the man looks familiar. You suddenly realize who it is. It's George W. Bush!

At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him under forever. You have two options--you can save the life of G.W. Bush or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of one of the world's most powerful men.

So here's the question... please give an honest answer:

Would you select high contrast color film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?

I think Bill would have approved...

What makes you Bill Hicks angry?

Hello, all...

I feel that as much as anything else, this tribe should be about keeping the spirit of Bill alive, as well as holding high him and his work.

With that in mind, I'm asking, what makes you Bill Hicks angry? One of your favourite regular pub or water cooler rants? It doesn't matter if it's similar or the same as one of Bill's flashpoints... it doesn't even really matter if it's something that's quite specific to you... just change the names, and share the rant. There's something quite universal about indignant rage, anyway.

the book "American Scream", a biography of Bill. IT's a fairly quick read, and a succinct overview of the man's life and career, but it provides a deeper understanding and context for Bill's material. If your a fan I highly recommend checking out this book, and taking it along with you to your local waffle establishment, to answer when the waitress says,
What I learned in Germany.

I post this because I think like Bill did and I now understand the impact the Europeans had on him.

War is a game played by global business leaders (Kings). War takes an investment in dollars (taxes paid by workers) and human grunts (pawns) to achieve some bigger return on investment or to reduce the loss (or perceived loss) of future assets (like land, natural resources, cheap workers, taxpayers...)

The best part of this game is that the players can make nearly any move they wish without any significant intervention by the workers and the grunts. The leaders simply generate endless propaganda via the mass media system they own to fuel the emotions of those who pay with their taxes and lives. By keeping us all confused and emotionally heated, we are essentially powerless to do anything for our benefit.

I just came back from a business trip to southern Germany. I visited a Gothic church in Freiburg that no words can describe. Not only is it a tremendous structure, it stood alone in 1944 as every single house and building around it was leveled to the ground. As I met with the local people, one message was loud and clear and that was a sincere apology for the hell they put the world through in the 1940's. These are very intelligent, well educated, hard working people who all fell for the propaganda of Hitler. The leaders heated the debates, brought in the criminals to run the system, and everyone watched their children march off to fight the evil world and most never came back home. When the troops took the Jews away to the camps, the people knew less than we do today about what goes on in prison camps. The people believed in their leaders. After all, the Jews did run many of the banks and the shops so it was plausible that removing them would return much wealth to the German people. What they missed was Hitler was really looking for global domination and the German people were his taxpayers and grunts helping him in the process. Seems an awful like the American Globalist agenda to me. How’s the jobless recovery, outsourcing jobs, high gas prices, and tax cuts on dividends and capital gains helping us? I am a well educated, gainfully employed upper middle class family man and I sure can’t figure out how ANYONE who works for a living is celebrating economic growth for their familiy? If you lose your job, can you live well on your dividends and stock profits? Can you handle a 50% pay cut without disruption to your lifestyle? Can you tap into your retirement now and live well until 85?

The German’s (like many other countrymen) know first hand what it is like to not only have a child die in the service; but, to have entire towns filled with people all killed in a matter of hours. The people in Africa and SE Asia who suffered torture and death by the millions simply don’t have the education to articulate or the mass media to propagate the truth about war and even if they did, our (free) media would not be allowed to share it. The people who died on 9/11 can't speak; but, if they could come back to us I have no doubt in my mind that they would tell us to end all wars and weapons of mass destruction and not repeat the insanity of a few religious fanatics from Saudi Arabia. (none from Iraq by the way)

The same thing is happening now. We have corrupt, greedy, self-centered government and corporate leadership who have no concept (or care about) everyday American struggles. The goal is global domination by elimination of the overpaid middle class people who simply cut into profits; reduce earnings per share, share price, and executive bonuses and perks.

We think our leaders know what we want and that they are working in our best interest because that is what they tell us (or they seem to tell us) on the TV. Our leaders are nothing more than those who reap the largest corporate sponsorship and pay for the most TV advertising PERIOD. They have a debt to pay when they get elected and it is not to you and I who gave ten dollars and a vote. .

Do you really want to invest your future taxes in controlling (and freeing - haha) Iraq verses improving education to reduce crime and retain higher paying jobs in this country? Do you really want to send your children to kill people on the other side of the world who have no weapons of mass destruction, who did nothing to us on 9/11, who just so happen to be sitting on the second largest oil reserve on the planet worth 5 to 10 TRILLON dollars. HELLO, can you even conceive $10,000,000,000,000.00. That is the same as giving $40,000 cash each to the 25 million poorest American’s; think that would make the USA a better place to live? But of course the distribution will be more like giving $100 million to each of the richest 10,000 people. Hey it will trickle down right; ok maybe in our next life.

God Bless America; the land of good hearted, well-intentioned, people; who suffer from the destruction caused by the weapons of mass media. I love my country; I was born and raised here. I love my troops as they are my children. I stand ready to fight to the death on our soil should that day come. I have not one single cell in my body that accepts my country launching an offensive on another on their soil for any reason. Let the Middle East deal with their own problems. Stop investing American dollars and lives to fund military aggression in the Muslim world (did you know there are more Muslims than Catholics!). The strong and the righteous will always prevail as they have done so without American intervention for thousands if not millions of years. Iraq is not Hitler, they are not coming to take over America (BE FOR REAL) they are the size of California and throw stones, I don’t think we are in any big danger of losing our already controlled freedom here.

Peace
Rev.

Ladies and gents, we now have a tribe picture. Which means that there IS a point to submitting your photos to the photobook, beyond it going in the book pile.
Apparently I got made admin of the tribe after sending Tribe that e-mail, but nobody bothered telling me!

Was it "...pretty damn good comedian?" or "...prophet of some description?" or "... piece of our heritage as a hilarious member of the human race...!?"

And how the hell do we go about solving the lack of a tribe moderator?

For those of you not in the know...

Go find Preacher... a great comic written by Garth Ennis, with art by Steve Dillon. The whole series is worth picking up in trade paperbacks, but specifically, there's a whole issue dedicated to Bill Hicks, in which two characters reminisce about the man's impact on their lives. Or unlives.

Oh, and as comics go, it's about as violent, and funny, and touching as it's possible to get. Go read, if you haven't already.

You're invited to the latest in a series of bi-weekly events:

April 1st Invisible College celebrates Terence McKenna with videos, music, speakers, hands-on demos and HIGH spirited fun for all. We will be screening "Shamans Amongst the Machines," Terence's final public appearance at the Aero Space club in Seattle, 1999.

Terence McKenna was a psychedelic author, explorer, and showman. He was born in 1946 and grew up in Paonia, Colorado. In high school he moved to Los Altos, California and from there attended U.C. Berkeley for two years before setting off to travel. He traveled widely in Asia, South America, and Europe during his college years and his first book, co-authored with his brother Dennis McKenna, was based on their 1971 investigations of Amazonian hallucinogens. During his travels through Asia, he became involved with the hashish trade and eventually ran afoul of the... heck, who knows who he ran afoul of! No one we know!

Hicks Tribute in L.A. 2/026/04

** 2/26/04: L.A. BURNER BENEFIT: BILL HICKS TRIBUTE **

L.A. Burning Man Community Benefit: Bill Hicks Tribute

February 26th will mark the 10 year anniversary of the untimely passing of Bill Hicks, stand-up comedian supreme and unparalleled scathing social commentarian. Bill set the bar for what is possible in communicating via the stand-up medium. http://www.billhicks.com

It will be a low key evening (being a school night and all), in which a brief presentation will be given, followed by a short documentary of Bill's life called "It's Just A Ride" (which is excellent), and some video of his stand up acts. If you're a Bill admirer you will want to be here. If you don't know Bill's material and the basis of his life, you should definitely come down and check it out. Either way you will be supporting the L.A. BM community.

Many such Hicks tributes will be happening all over the world on this same evening. He still talks to us, even 10 years after his passing. Bill created quite a ripple...

http://www.sacredcow.com/allnew/index_content.php?n=news_hicks_tributes_locations

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Bill Hicks Foundation For Wildlife.

A small donation of $5.00 is suggested, more if you can afford it, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Thursday February 26th

8:00pm-11pm

Everytime someone asks the question- "How come we're in Iraq", with the follow-up question "Hey, what's that moving in and out of my anus?", it seems like a new PR stunt to distract comes about.

"Why are we there?"
Shut up and look at the president on the aircraft carrier.
"Ok, but why are we there"
"Be quiet- look at him IN Iraq"
"Ok, but why are we there?"
"shut up and look at this starving Iraqi child with toys we gave him"
"Ok, but- hey, why is my ass so sore?
"Ask us again next November"

What's My Agenda?

"I have this feeling that whoever's elected president, no matter what promises you make on the campaign trail - blah, blah, blah - when you win, you go into this smoky room with the twelve industrialist, capitalist scumfucks that got you in there, and this little screen comes down... and it's a shot of the Kennedy assassination from an angle you've never seen before, which looks suspiciously off the grassy knoll.... And then the screen comes up, the lights come on, and they say to the new president, 'Any questions?'

"Just what my agenda is."

When and how did you discover Bill?

I lived through the 80's and 90's and never heard of Bill Hicks. I lived near NYC and was not riding on a turnip truck but I somehow entirely missed him. I was an anti-war activist during the Gulf War too.

I discovered Bill entirely by accident while surfing one day about two years ago. I watched some of his clips and fell off my chair. I thought, shit this guy sounds like me. He says everything I think and say (but he adds fuck a lot more). I immediately bought his entire collection of CDs, Videos, and shirts.

Unfortunately, I found that most of his great stuff was already on my hard drive but it was a good investment in a man’s work that deserves to be spread around.

I have found that I have to introduce Bill carefully to people and the selection I play has to fit into the opening of the listeners mind just right or he gets cut off. I first burned entire CDs and gave them out only to find that they heard some stupid dick joke, didn’t think it was very funny, pulled out the disk, and never gave him a second chance.
