the book "American Scream", a biography of Bill. IT's a fairly quick read, and a succinct overview of the man's life and career, but it provides a deeper understanding and context for Bill's material. If your a fan I highly recommend checking out this book, and taking it along with you to your local waffle establishment, to answer when the waitress says,
"Hey, What'cha readin' for?"
"Hey, What'cha readin' for?"

Fri, May 28, 2004 - 5:45 PMYes, I just finished reading it the other day, actually. I liked it. Although I wanted more at the end. I wanted to know what became of all those other people in Bill's life. After finishing I just had to go and download Van Morrison's Astral Weeks. Great album. -

Sat, July 3, 2004 - 6:22 PMfinished it last week.
i find it extremely interesting how he was able to complete his life. handled his addictions, refined and defended his voice, had his star on the rise, getting noticed worldwide, had multiple new projects in the works etc. and even tho he was interrupted by pancreatic cancer in all this, there was a sense of spiritual and social completion in his life.
one well lived. -

Re: Anybody read ....
Tue, March 22, 2005 - 1:51 PMyes! good book. more of an overview of his life than a deeply journalistic work. i thought it offered a great context to his material: growing up disenfranchised in suburban texas, his oft-conflicted spiritual life, his introduction to/ struggle with drugs and alcohol -- all of which informed his challenging, confrontational, yet very human comic style. a must-read for anyone just getting into bill hicks and for those who'd like to gain a better understanding of his huge impact on modern comedy.
