The other day I was talking with a person about Hicks...this person didn't know who Hicks was. So SAD...but great for me to start with the jokes...well this person made comparisons...oh that sounds like Dan Cook or Carlos or blah blah blah..I'm like dude those people are their cause of Hicks...
These are thoughts about what is and what could have been!!
Back in Hicks day we had HBO comedy specials back then we had HBO, Cinemax and regular TV...4, 5, 7 etc..
To see a comedian you had to go to a club or rent a movie or watch a special on HBO, we also had the improve nights or comedy nights as specials but never a long running show. Hicks wanted a television show, I've read that he finally got the go ahead just as his cancer was kicking in and he was working on the show at the same time.
I believe that Bill Hicks was working on a type of show we may watch on Comedy Central before Comedy Central was even on air, I'll put money on it. Bill fought to get this TV show going of course he died before it was finished. There is a possibility his idea was taken as a great idea and turned into what we see today as the typical show, Chapelle, Mencia ect. maybe even inspired the network to come about Comedy Central. Could I be making more of Bill then actually is, maybe, however I just have this feeling...if he was still alive and the show went on air, it would have been as usual with Hicks ahead of it's time and canceled and now today he'd be back in full force, on Comedy Central with his own show.
If anybody has heard of the planned Bill Hicks show maybe their is some skits or footage or scripts out their. The like holy grail of Comedy Central, locked in a vault is the secret to Comedy Centrals success, it's the Bill Hicks TV pilot...Is Bill Hicks the God of Comedy??? Yes if you believe in a God....

Re: Why Bill Hicks may be the God of Comedy Central!!!!
Thu, May 24, 2007 - 5:40 AMFunny you should say that. Comedy Central was where I first heard about Hicks. In fact, I remember back when Penn was still doing the narration for the Comedy Central spots (early/mid 90s) Bill Hicks standup was on ALL the time. -

Thu, May 24, 2007 - 10:26 AMHicks would bitchslap Dane Cook. Dane Cook is Gallagher: The Next Generation. In fact, if Bill Hicks lived to get more recognition (perhaps if he made a movie or something), there wouldn't be any room for the Dane Cooks in comedy and we'd see more Patton Oswalts. -

Re: Why Bill Hicks may be the God of Comedy Central!!!!
Thu, May 24, 2007 - 11:00 AMIf you look at the underlying sedition (as opposed to delivery) of Hick's material, I think Maria Bamford is carrying the torch now. Check out her two albums, and especially the 6 short films that link off her website.
With Oswald, I keep getting the feeling that he's just winging it, and hasn't worked out much in advance. I'd like a little more thought to go into it. -

Re: Why Bill Hicks may be the God of Comedy Central!!!!
Tue, May 29, 2007 - 2:42 AMHi,
I was the production manager on the bill hick's
just a ride documentary and booked all the interviews
(including the very tough to get letterman interview)
the tv show was for a british company for british tv
when bill died the company "tiger aspect"
produced the documentary instead...
I never heard anything about what the show's content
would have been other than "HUNTING DOWN AND
KILLING BILLY RAY CIRUS EVERY WEEK"
cheers
